Pricing, in public

# How much does an inground pool cost in North Carolina?

**Most inground pools in coastal NC land between $55,000 and $325,000 installed — fiberglass at the lower end, custom gunite with a spa and water features at the upper.** Below is every build type with what actually moves the number. We publish ranges because a builder who will not is usually protecting a number you would not like.

## What a quote does and does not include

### Usually in the number

- **The pool.** Excavation, shell or shotcrete, plumbing, filtration and startup.
- **Basic decking.** A walkway around the pool, typically broom-finished concrete.
- **Permits.** County building and electrical, and state plan review where required.
- **Startup.** Water balance, equipment walkthrough and warranty paperwork.

### Usually extra

- **Fencing.** NC requires a barrier. Budget $4,000–12,000 depending on run and material.
- **Heating.** A heat pump or gas heater, sized to the volume, runs $4,500–9,000 installed.
- **Upgraded decking.** Paver or travertine instead of concrete adds $8,000–30,000.
- **Site work.** Dewatering, shoring, crane access or retaining walls — $8,000–20,000 when needed.

Why the range is wide

## Four things that move your number most

1. 01

   ### Build type

A molded shell and a custom gunite pool are different products at different prices.
2. 02

   ### Site access

If a machine cannot reach the backyard, the cost of getting there is real.
3. 03

   ### Groundwater

A shallow water table means dewatering during construction and a hydrostatic plan after.
4. 04

   ### Finish level

Decking material, tile, coping, lighting and automation are where budgets actually move.

The numbers

## Inground pool costs, coastal NC

Ranges reflect completed coastal NC projects and are updated as the market moves. Your quote is fixed after a site visit.

| Build | Installed | Timeline | What moves the number |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Fiberglass, standard lot | $90,000–160,000 | 6–12 weeks | Decking area, tanning ledge, heater, fencing |
| Plunge pool, under 300 sq ft | $55,000–135,000 | 4–10 weeks | Fiberglass vs. concrete, access, decking |
| Gunite, custom | $135,000–200,000 | 3–6 months | Shape, depth, spa, water features, finish grade |
| Gunite, luxury with spa | $200,000–325,000+ | 4–6 months | Vanishing edge, retaining walls, automation |

High water table or tight access adds roughly $8,000–20,000 to any of the above. Replaster on an existing pool runs $7,000–15,500.

Common questions

## Cost questions

What is the cheapest inground pool in NC?

A fiberglass plunge shell, starting around $55,000 installed.

Below that you are looking at above-ground, which we do not build. The permit, equipment and barrier costs barely shrink with the pool, which is why the floor sits where it does.

Why is coastal NC more expensive than inland?

Groundwater and sandy soil. Dewatering, shoring and engineered backfill are routine here and rare two hours west.

Flood elevation requirements on the equipment pad and coastal-rated hardware add to it.

Does a pool add value to a coastal home?

In this market it more often affects how fast a house sells than what it sells for.

We will give you a straight answer for your street rather than a national statistic — but talk to a local agent before you treat a pool as an investment.

Do you finance?

We work with third-party lenders and can point you at them, but we do not finance in-house.

Most customers use a HELOC or an unsecured pool loan. We will give you a written quote you can take to either.
